Ruthless
Would you like an example of how ruthless the Sith are? Let's take a close look at the infamous Trade Federation blockade at Naboo.
This blockade was orchestrated by the Palpatine, now know to us to be a Sith Lord. He made arrangements with the Trade Federation to blockade Naboo in order to force a treaty between Naboo and the Federation. He would then use his influence in the Senate to make sure the treaty was ratified. It was only the chance that the Chancellor had sent Jedi as his ambassadors that kept this plan from working. Or was it?
After much thought on the situation, I have come to see the plan within the plan. At first I couldn't understand why the Sith would want to have a treaty between Naboo and the Trade Federation. The political power the senator would have gained by this treaty was minimal at best, and financial power is incidental to the type of power the Sith seek.
Palpatine acted surprised when the Leaders of the Trade Federation blockade told him that the ambassadors were Jedi, but this was just that, an act. Senator Palpatine was well connected enough that there is no way he would not have at least known who the Chancellor sent as his representatives. In all likelihood, Palpatine was the one who actually recommended sending Jedi. This would have had two effects. First, it would guarantee that Queen Amidala would get away from Naboo and head for Corrusant. Second, it would feed the Sith Lord's Ego to know that he had manipulated the Jedi to do his bidding.
Why would He want Amidala to get away from Naboo. So that he could manipulate her into calling for a vote of no confidence against the Chancellor. Thus, creating the opening he needed in order to step into the seat of power.
He setup and betrayed the Trade Federation and Queen Amidala both so masterfully that neither one knew what he had done, and he was able to do it again later.
